BACK Bayan Lepas Penang, there terpelau, here regardless. That's the conclusion can be made to see the results of this election, especially in Penang. When the BN, especially UMNO Permatang Pauh parliamentary expect to return to his lap, but the opposite happened. BN finally losing two parliamentary constituencies of Balik Pulau and Nibong Tebal which traditionally belong to the BN even more so for the Balik Pulau.
And is not the defeated candidate Calang-Calang people. Behind the island, members of the Supreme Council (MT) UMNO, Dr. Norraesah Mohamad while in Palangkaraya, the Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Zainal Abidin Osman. More surprisingly, Zainal lost to PKR's Tan Beng Tee, the son of former Penang Gerakan leaders. In the majority of Malay voters, the PKR candidate won comfortably in excess of 3.087 Norraesah votes while competing in the nearly 61 percent Malay voters defeated by a majority of 708 votes to PKR.
In the Legislative Assembly (DUN), the UMNO lost three seats than ever before just one seat. UMNO has been a savior to the formation of the BN when the Gerakan and MCA lost many seats, while Umno won all the contested seats up to create the post of Deputy Chief Minister for the party.
Now the situation has changed. Many are asking what has happened to our Penang Malays?
What is certain Malay votes are split on the island. They do not care anymore who is contesting as long as the candidate representing the opposition. Neither candidate DAP, PKR or PAS, many Malay votes have been released into the hands of the opposition, which now succeeded in forming the state government.
And some would argue, good luck to win a Malay Pas and PKR Malays to win three seats in the DUN. But there is also a representative of the Malays in the state government, including Deputy Chief Minister of the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency and a member of the executive council of state governments. True also says they are. But in reality, more people of Penang Malays are now in the opposition - all 11 people, from UMNO.
UMNO colleagues from other component parties are contesting the Gerakan, MCA and MIC have all failed. But for the Parliament, a growing number of Malay representatives when Zahrain Hashim, who was once the Tanjong UMNO won the Bayan Baru parliamentary seat previously represented MCA. No one is expecting one day and now chairman Zahrain PKR Penang could be representatives of the people in the state. This is because no one else in the Tanjong seat safe for the candidate of the party. But political changes have changed the fate Zahrain. Bayan Baru previously also been represented the Malays by Ahmad Nor from the DAP.
Competition
Looking at the areas where the majority of Malay voters, apparently accepted the tremendous competition between UMNO and PKR. This is based on the majority of the votes obtained by candidates who won in the Assembly, except in five areas, each with three in the Kepala Batas parliamentary and two at Tasek Gelugor.
Most of the area which was won by PKR candidates obtained more votes than win UMNO candidates who win a majority vote of the smaller of the PKR candidate.
In Georgetown Assembly, UMNO won with a majority of 399 votes, Pulau Betong (294), Telok Bahang (465), Seberang Jaya (533), Georgetown (535) and Sungai Acheh (250). Instead of three seats won by the opposition, PAS won with a bigger majority in Permatang Pasir, namely 5.433 votes to win seats while PKR seat of the votes and Sungai Bakap 2.219 to 2.067 majority vote.
That voting pattern that involves a clash between the two Malay candidates in the state. As if this situation continues? As a minority on the island, the Malays are not supposed to have continued until they split into two - the opposition and government supporters who finally did not give any meaning to their political struggle.
Penang is not to be confused with or Terengganu Kelantan. Penang Malay under any condition should show their unity in order not to lose the ashes and the winner does not become charcoal. It is easier if you do not understand Malay loss whether they win or lose. Similarly, a reminder of the Malays-first down to the village not to win cheerleading compromised.
I hope the Penang Malays are not marginalized and neglected as a first dikeluh kesahkan by the Malay community in the Pearl Islands in recent years after a coalition of DAP-PKR-PAS was formed.
